Q – What age can I start motorcycle training?
A – You can commence training at 16 for a 49cc moped, or 17 for a 125cc machine. At 19 you can begin training towards an A2 category bike. If you have no experience at all you have to be 24 before training can start on a full A category motorcycle.
Q – How much does it cost?
A– Have a look at the page on prices – all our course costs are detailed there
Q – What f I have a lesson and don’t think motorcycling is for me?
A – Not a problem – you only pay for the lessons on an hourly basis – so if you decide you don’t like motorcycling there is no contract or commitment. Be warned though – it can be addictive!
Q – What should I wear?
A – We will explain this during our first conversation, but basically all you need to bring are strong shoes or boots offering ankle protection ( Trainers etc are not acceptable) We will supply a helmet, gloves and a jacket.
Q – I have my own motorcycle kit can I wear that?
A – Of course – its much nicer to wear your own kit, so bring what you have!
Q –Can I do the training on my own motorcycle?
A – Yes indeed – however it will need to be insured, taxed and MOT’d.
Q – Can I pay for an entire course up front?
A – Some schools offer this facility, but generally there are hidden costs and it is unclear what exactly you are paying for or how many hour’s training you are getting for your money. At Moto Training NI we simply charge by the hour – so you only pay for the training you need and receive.
Q – How do I book the theory & practical tests?
A – These are booked and paid for online – see the relevant section in our links page.
Q – Do I need to do any homework before commencing?
A – Technically no, however if you have never opened the highway code or it has been a long time since you read it, then we would strongly advise you browse through the pages prior to arriving at the school.
Q – My friend and myself want to train together, can this be done?
A – Generally we train on a 1 to 1 basis, but we are happy to oblige subject to instructor and bike availability
Q – How long will my course take?
A – As everyone learns at a different rate it is impossible to say – A CBT course on a 125 could be completed in a single day, but may take a little longer, depending on the individual and the weather conditions A DAS course will depend again on your level of experience.
Q – Can I do a condensed course in a week for example?
A – Unfortunately not due to the test booking system in Northern Ireland, which means it can take up to 3 weeks to book a test date at your chosen test centre.
Q – Once I have passed my test, can you offer advice on purchasing a motorcycle?
A – Of course! We won’t abandon you once you have passed your test! You are welcome to call us for advice on any aspects of motorcycling. We welcome any other questions you might have so please feel free to get in touch via the contact us page
